Micah Fry named Student of the Year

 

Micah FryOne day after being named the Outstanding Student for Arkansas City, Cowley College sophomore Micah Fry was presented with the Student of the Year award at Cowley College’s annual Honors and Awards ceremony held Tuesday in the Earle N. Wright Community Room.

Fry, along with the school’s other Student of the Month selections, were up for the prestigious honor of Student of the Year.

Fry is involved in several activities and clubs at Cowley. She is involved with ACES, Act 1 Drama Club, Cowley Television, and is a Student Senate Representative for the Media Club. She is a Cowley Tutor, a Cowley College Student Ambassador, and also part of Phi Theta Kappa. 

Fry has grown up around Cowley with her father, James, having worked at Cowley for the past 15 years and currently serving as the coordinator of Cowley College’s Academic Civic Engagement through Service program.

In the community she has helped with Habitat for Humanity, Boy Scouts of America, First Assembly of God, Calvary Chapel and at Ark City Christian Academy (ACCA). All the while maintaining a 4.0 GPA and earning a spot on the President’s Honor Roll every semester at Cowley.

“Being named Student of the Year is an honor and blessing,” Fry said. “It is not my own doing, all the glory to God.”

After graduating from Cowley, Fry plans to transfer to Northeastern State University in Tahlequah, OK.

“It will be hard to leave Cowley,” Fry said. “I came and made it my home.”

During the Honors and Awards ceremony a representative from each department at Cowley College honored students that have excelled during the 2012-13 academic year.

“This is a night to honor the students for their hard work and dedication,” Cowley interim president Tony Crouch said during the banquet. “We wish you nothing but the best going forward.”

Kristi Shaw, director of student life, organized the event. While, Kathy McDonald and BJ Thoma provided the meal.
