Cowley freshman displays work at Gallery 1001

Kara Thomas and Mike FellKara Thomas, a freshman Cowley College art major and Phi Theta Kappa honor student from El Dorado, was introduced to the art world at a young age and became fully engaged during her public school years. She has won numerous awards for her artwork, including a National Gold Medal in the Scholastics Art and Writing Competition of 2011. She is currently seeking to earn an Associates of Arts degree in the spring of 2014 and has most recently exhibited her works at Gallery 1001 in Winfield.

The works on display were abstract and realistic portraits including acrylic paintings and drawings in charcoal.

“My showing in this gallery has been a great experience,” Thomas said. “I have done shows with the fellow art students at Cowley College but with this experience I have had the pleasure to show with a great group of experienced artists with many different artistic styles. I definitely thought it was amazing to be showing in the same art gallery as my professor, Mike Fell.”

Thomas’s goal is to become an art teacher at the high school or collegiate level.
