Cowley instructor teams to make commemorative 90th anniversary guitar

guitarCowley College Machine Tool instructor, Ricky Squires, who also operates a guitar company with Jake Willoughby called C.R. Alsip Guitars, recently made a commemorative 90th anniversary guitar for the school to display throughout the 2012-2013 academic year.

Squires and Willoughby began making guitars in January. The guitars are all neck thru design and have their patent pending SES system installed. They began making the guitar for the college after talking to school administrators.

Squires hopes this will help promote the college, the community and generate interest in a possible guitar repair class at the school.

“This guitar is a gift from us to the college to hopefully show everyone that Art and Technology go hand in hand,” Squires said.

All of the C.R. Alsip Guitars are programmed by Squires and machined on a CNC router with the exception of handmade guitars such as the one for Cowley.

Squires and Willoughby currently have two major artists playing their guitars; Bill Leverty of Firehouse and Frank Hannon of Tesla. They are also in the process of making a guitar for Steve Brown of the band Trixter.
