Regier finds her way at Cowley

RegierCalling herself an average student at Newton High School, Brandi Regier came to Cowley College with the desire to push herself academically. Through hard work and countless hours spent in the library, Regier has excelled in the classroom and was recently named Cowley College’s December Student of the Month.

Regier is the daughter of Randy and Tammy Regier. Grandparents are, Mema and Poppy Regier of Newton. She has one sister, Brooke 17.

At Newton High School she participated in cheerleading, choir, and was a member of the soccer, swimming and diving teams.

Her neighbor in Newton, Aubrey Denney, chose Cowley after high school and was active in the theatre as well as a candidate for Queen Alalah in 2009.

“I knew she loved it at Cowley and that made me want to go there,” Regier said. “Cowley was just far enough away from home to allow me to grow up on my own.”

The sophomore dental hygiene major was in Cowley College’s Renn Memorial Library when she was informed she was named the December Student of the Month.

“I put a lot of effort into my studying and have learned a lot about myself,” Regier said. “I learned you can do anything if you put your mind to it.”

At Cowley, Regier is involved in many activities and clubs. She is in Phi Theta Kappa, is a Cowley Athletic Ambassador, is involved in the IMPACT program, and is a member of the Concert Choir.

In the community, she has previously volunteered with the Humane Society and also Relay for Life. All the while, Regier has maintained a 3.66 grade point average and was on the Dean’s Honor for the fall 2011 semester and the President’s Honor Roll for the spring 2012 semester.

Charlee Wilson, Director of Retention and Tutoring Services, is among those who have noticed Regier’s accomplishments.

“I have been Brandi’s advisor since her first day at Cowley, and since that first day she has taken an active interest in her academic success,” Wilson said. “She is always looking forward with the goals she has set, but at the same time she understands to reach those goals she must also focus on what is in front of her today. She is getting the most out of her college experience here at Cowley. It has been a pleasure to work with Brandi the past three semesters as her advisor.”

Regier credits Charlee Wilson and microbiology instructor Scott Layton with helping her grow up as a student at Cowley. She has also enjoyed being a student in Mark Flickinger’s art classes.

In her free time, she enjoys drawing, painting, dancing, and working on craft projects.

After graduating from Cowley, Regier plans on transferring to Wichita State University where she will work toward her Bachelor’s degree in Dental Hygiene and also minor in Spanish.

Until then, she looks forward to enjoying her final semester at Cowley.

“At Cowley you feel at home when you are not at home,” Regier said. “I love the school and the activities here.”
