College conducts blood drive

Blood DriveCowley College freshman Nikolaus Bekemeyer rolls up his sleeve and gives blood during the annual American Red Cross blood drive held Thursday in the Earle N. Wright Community Room inside the Brown Center on the main campus. Pictured with Bekemeyer is Joyce McLaughlin of the American Red Cross and Buddy the Blood Drop.

The annual blood drive had 25 people give 25 units of usable blood according to figures released by Tabitha Farley, coordinator of student health services.

“It was a good effort by (ACES Coordinator) James Fry and his group of kids,” Farley said. “We had a nice, steady flow of volunteers. It was also a good way for the Social Science classes to fulfill their part of service learning.”

The next blood drive to be held at the college will take place in October.

Every two seconds someone receives a unit of blood. The need is constant. It is the American Red Cross’s goal to meet that need through voluntary donations.
