Part-time instructor to perform at 20th annual Jazz Festival Concert

Jason Whitmore, a part-time applied instrumental instructor at Cowley College, will be among the performers at the 20th annual Jazz Festival Concert held Saturday, March 29 at 7:30 p.m. at the Crest Theatre in Great Bend. Whitmore will serve as a jazz tenor sax soloist with the “Prairie Winds Jazz All Stars”.

Along with teaching at Cowley, Whitmore is an active performer and teacher in the Wichita area. He has taught at many area high school band camps and has been a faculty member at the Kansas State Lions Band Camp. He has taught private lessons for more than eight years on multiple woodwind instruments. He is a trained classical and jazz musician, and has had the pleasure of performing with many different ensembles. Classically, he has performed with the Hutchinson Symphony, Hutchinson Municipal Band, and Wichita Wind Ensemble. He has backed up such performers as Shirley Jones, Wayne Newton and The Temptations, and has performed with featured groups in Italy and France at the Jazz á Juan, Orléans, and Umbria Jazz Festivals. He can be heard on several recording projects and has received multiple Outstanding Soloist awards and won the combo division of the North Texas Jazz Festival in 2009.
