Emily Smith named new campus photographer


campus photographerEmily Smith, a senior at West Elk High School, was recently selected to become Cowley College’s campus photographer for the 2014-2015 academic year. The position offers a COA scholarship.

In her role of campus photographer, Smith will take photographs of Cowley College facilities, students, classes, and most campus events. The photos will be used for Cowley College’s web sites, brochures, posters, flyers, press releases, and social media.

Over the past six years, the college’s campus photographers have taken almost 40,000 photos that are published on the school’s web sites.

Diana Dicken, Cowley College director of web services, is looking forward to having Emily as part of the team.

“I selected Emily based on her glowing references from teachers, her creative portfolio, her passion for photography, and her excellent work ethics,” Dicken said. “Janet Kennedy (assistant web master) and I are so excited about having Emily help us by capturing the Cowley College experience through photos.”

Smith, the daughter of Casey and Traci Smith, has a twin brother, Elijah, and an older brother, Levi. At West Elk High School, she is a member of the yearbook staff, and has participated in volleyball, FCA, and the National Honor Society.

She recently visited Cowley College as part of the Arts & Humanities Day and was awarded third place in the photography category.

Smith plans to major in mass communications and is looking forward to serving as the campus photographer.

“This is an amazing opportunity for me to learn more about photography,” Smith said.
