Cowley AEC team places fourth at KAEC State Championship


AECAfter placing ninth at last year’s KAEC State Championship, the Cowley College Academic Excellence Challenge team improved its performance by placing in a tie for fourth at the KAEC State Championship held April 3-4 at Kansas State University Salina. 

The Cowley AEC team went 4-4 and finished tied with Garden City Community College. Neosho County Community College went 9-1 and placed first at the event. award

The team played in five rounds on Thursday and four rounds on Friday.

“Our students competed well and finished strong,” Mark Flickinger, co-sponsor said. “We were especially strong in the areas of science and world history. I’m very proud of them.”

Freshman Mason Warren was Cowley’s top individual finisher as he placed fifth out of 45 contestants. Other Cowley team members were, Chris Cardone (15th place), John Rohr (25th place), Aniya McGowan (39th place), and Mariah Irvin (40th place).  McGowan and Irvin played in every other game.

Dianne Flickinger also serves as co-sponsor of the Cowley AEC team.
