Creative Claws hosts final Writers Corner of the school year

Writers' CornerPoetry…Fiction…Lyrics…Non-Fiction! Thursday night’s Writers’ Corner at Cowley College had it all. Over 50 students, faculty, family members and friends showed up to support Cowley writers.

Creative Claws hosted the event, and 17 writers (15 students and two faculty) presented 42 original works. “This has to be our best Writers’ Corner yet,” said Ryan Doom, faculty member and sponsor of Mile Marker Review.

Doom updated the group on the changes to the online journal that include the unveiling of a new website next week.

Graduating co-presidents Rachel Bouchard and Corey Rothwell started the evening off welcoming the audience and handing the reigns over to incoming presidents, Ian Brannan and Alecia Henson. Henson and Brannan presented Bouchard with flowers and Rothwell with chocolates as a thank you for their leadership this year.

Marlys Cervantes, Humanities department chair and Creative Claws sponsor, invited the audience to return next week for the student showcase. Life: Through Words and Lens will be held Thursday, May 8 at 6:30 p.m. in the Earle N. Wright Community Room.

“We have an excellent group of students this year, and I couldn’t be happier with their presentation of works tonight and the upcoming showcase and gallery,” Cervantes said. “I am so proud of their talent, passion, creativity and bravery in the works that they write and share. Cowley students amaze me.”
