Cowley�s Golden Tigers to hold Summer Enrollment on May 28

 

Summer enrollment for classes in the Golden Tigers at Cowley College is scheduled from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Wednesday, May 28 in the Webb-Brown Academic Center, Room 203, on the Arkansas City campus.

The Golden Tigers is for women and men age 50 and over. Fees for classes are due at the time of enrollment. Persons planning to attend enrollment should bring mailing labels to use on their enrollment forms and sign-up sheets. This saves writing your name repeatedly and speeds up the enrollment process. Enrollment by telephone or mail will be accepted after May 28.

 

Along with the summer classes, the Golden Tigers are planning a summer trip to Wichita to attend the Positive Aging Workshop on Tuesday, June 17. The workshop will be held from 8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Sedgwick County Extension Center located at 21st and Ridge Road.

Workshops on protecting your health, wealth, yourself and more will be offered throughout the day. Sierra Scott, KSCW news anchor will be the luncheon speaker. The trip will cost $20 for workshops, continental breakfast, a boxed lunch, vendor booths and transportation. Complete details will be available at enrollment.

Also, the “Life in a Jar” play will be presented Thursday, Oct. 16 in the Robert Brown Theatre. If you are interested in reading the book, copies can be checked out from Cowley College’s Renn Memorial Library.

The summer 2014 schedule:

JUNE

  • Aqua Fun – Monday, Wednesday, Friday, June 2, 4, 6, 9, 11, 13, 16, 18, 20, 23, 25, 27, 1-2 p.m. Family Aquatics Center, Arkansas City High School. Debbi Davidson, Instructor. Participants will be led by trained personnel through specially designed exercises that can help increase joint flexibility and improve mobility. Cost is $10.
  • Exercise – Tuesday and Thursday, June 3, 5, 10, 12, 17, 19, 24, 26, 1:30 – 2:30 p.m., Ben Cleveland Wellness Center. Gina McKown, Instructor. Class participants will work on the joint area and flexibility. Basic stretching, kickboxing, yoga, and using vita bands will be explored. Cost is $10.
  • Mah Jongg Players – Wednesday, June, 4, 11, 18, 25, 1-4 p.m., Webb-Brown Academic Center, Room 203. Margaret Neal, Instructor. This class is for experienced Mah Jongg players to continue playing and improving their game.
  • Driver Safety – Tuesday and Wednesday, June 10, 11, 1-5 p.m., Webb-Brown Academic Center, Room 206. Don Anderson from Mulvane will be the instructor. Eight hour classroom refresher course for motorists. Insurance companies in Kansas give a discount on your car insurance upon completion of the class. You must attend both sessions to receive a certificate to present to your insurance company. Cost is $12.
  • Creative Cards – Thursday, June 12, 19, 26, 1:30-4 p.m., Webb-Brown Academic Center, Room 203. Margaret Neal, instructor. This class will feature some fun cards including step cards and patriotic cards. Please bring scissors and your favorite adhesives. Cost is 10.
  • Trash to Treasures – Monday, June 16, 23, 30, 1:30-3:30 p.m., Webb-Brown Academic Center, Room 207. We will explore how to reuse, re-purpose and recycle textiles. The class will include information on using old jeans, t-shirts, ties, men’s shirts and more. Techniques for making a t-shirt quilt from collecting shirts to finished project will be presented during the class. Class members are encouraged to bring projects to share. Cost is $10.

JULY
