Several exciting performers lined up as part of back to school activities

The Improv group “A Shot of Reality”, nationally recognized speaker C.L. Lindsay, and famed hypnotist “Sailesh” will be among the performers entertaining audiences at Cowley College in August.
All three performances are free of charge and open to the public.

“A Shot of Reality” provides an honest, engaging, humorous and sober new look at alcohol awareness on campus. “A Shot of Reality” educates students about encountering alcohol in a college environment and will perform at Cowley College’s Robert Brown Theatre at 9 p.m. Tuesday, August 12.

Members of the group have extensive training in alcohol awareness education, improv comedy, and interactive theater.

“I am really excited to hear this engaging information,” Cowley College director of Student Life Kristi Shaw said.

C.L. Lindsay, a nationally recognized expert and leader in the field of student rights and academic freedom, will make his third visit to Cowley College in the past decade when he discusses Social Media at the school’s Robert Brown Theatre at 10 a.m. Wednesday, August 13.

Lindsay graduated magna cum laude from Denison University, and received his J.D. from the University of Michigan. In 1998, he left his practice in New York City to found the Coalition for Student & Academic Rights (CO-STAR). Since then, acting as its Executive Director, he has built CO-STAR into a national student rights organization that helps thousands of college students with their legal problems, free-of-charge, each year.

Lindsay is also the author of The College Student's Guide to the Law: Get a Grade Changed, Keep Your Stuff Private, Throw a Police-Free Party, and more.

“C.L. Lindsay is amazing at reaching out to students in the social media arena,” Shaw said. “He talks about all the dos and don’ts of social media and how what you post can affect your entire life.”

SaileshThe following night, on Thursday, August 14, famed hypnotist “Sailesh” will bring his unique brand of hypnotism to Cowley College for a 7 p.m. performance in the Robert Brown Theatre.

Sailesh has performed around the United States, Canada and Europe. Sailesh’s show takes audience members on a fantastical journey using hypnosis, improv, music and interactivity to create laughter and fun.

“The students will love him,” Shaw said.
