Jack McVey receives award named after longtime friend

Exhibiting excellence in the four core values of Cowley College, Jack McVey was named the recipient of the Ben LeClair Staff Excellence Award during the school’s all-college meeting held Friday in the Earle N. Wright Community Room.

Ben LeClair Staff Excellence AwardBenny Joe “Ben” LeClair was a long time employee of Cowley College, who died February 7, 2011. He was a valuable staff member who was dedicated to the continual pursuit of excellence by embracing the four Core Values of Cowley College: People, Accountability, Integrity and Leadership. He performed his daily duties with integrity and a smile and led by example.

To honor and remember LeClair’s legacy, the college accepted nominations for the Ben LeClair Staff Excellence Award for Cowley College. When it came time to make a decision the group came to a unanimous selection of Jack McVey as this year’s recipient.

McVey worked with LeClair for more than a decade and has spent the past 16 years employed at the College. He serves as Custodial Supervisor for the school and is known as a dependable, willing and capable employee.

“I don’t have to worry about anything that Jack is responsible for,” said Tony Crouch, Cowley College executive vice president of business services. “I think Ben would be tickled that Jack won the award and I am as proud of Jack as I can be.”

McVey was quick to recognize the college’s custodial employees when accepting the award.

“I am only as good as my workers make me,” McVey said. “Without them this would not be possible.”
