X Factor contestant highlights weekend of fun for Cowley students

Welcoming students back to school, Cowley College hosted several fun events throughout the weekend, including a free concert by former Cowley student and X Factor contestant Mat Slovacek.

concertThe weekend started with a Free Movie Night for Cowley College Students Friday at the Cowley Cinema 8. Students then had an opportunity to swim for free at the Paris Park Pool in Arkansas City on Saturday.

On Sunday, more than 350 students took part in the Cowley Cookout outside of the McAtee Dining Center, and making of a personalized street sign in the Nelson Student Center. Slovacek then took the stage at the Calder-Bonfy Amphitheatre to cap the fun-filled weekend.

Slovacek, who was a member of the Cowley College men’s tennis team during the 2008 season, has gone on to find success as a musician. The former X Factor contestant will release his first CD later this week.

“His voice is awesome,” Cowley director of student life Kristi Shaw said. “I truly believe we will see him some day in Nashville.”
