Paige Traffas named September Cowley College Student of the Month

traffasInvolved in many activities on campus and maintaining a 3.74 grade point average, Cowley College sophomore Paige Traffas was recently named the school’s September Student of the Month.

Traffas, daughter of Richard and Alice Traffas, is a pre-medicine major from Arkansas City. She graduated from Arkansas City High School in 2012. While at ACHS, she was involved in debate, forensics, Future Business Leaders of America, the National Honor Society, and was the leader of the school’s percussion and band.

When deciding on a college she chose Cowley because of its location and the opportunity to be involved in the school’s Cowley Activity Awareness Team (C.A.A.T.).

“C.A.A.T. has helped me meet a wide variety of people and allowed me an opportunity to teach others a healthier lifestyle,” Traffas said.

Along with her involvement with C.A.A.T., Traffas is in Phi Theta Kappa, is a Cowley Student Ambassador, and serves as a Cowley Tutor.

“It has been never ending fun,” Traffas said. “There is something different and exciting every day.”

Managing her busy schedule, Traffas was named to the President’s Honor Roll for the Fall 2012 semester and the Dean’s Honor Roll for the Spring 2013 semester.

Her hard work at the school has not gone unnoticed. Charlee Wilson, Director of Retention and First Year Experience, is among those who have noticed Traffas’s accomplishments at Cowley.

“I got to know Paige last year while sponsoring the Cowley Activity Awareness Team (C.A.A.T.) and from the first day she was in C.A.A.T. Paige took on a leading role within the group,” Wilson said. “I quickly recognized that she was a hard worker, and was impressed with her dedication to making sure the job got done right. Paige is an awesome student in all aspects, and I feel she is very deserving of being awarded Cowley Student of the Month.”

Being named September Student of the Month will motivate Traffas to continue on the path she has set for herself.

“It gives me pride and makes me even more determined to succeed in my goals,” Traffas said.

After graduating from Cowley, she plans on transferring to Wichita State University to finish her undergraduate degree. After completing her coursework at WSU she plans to continue her education at the University of Kansas School of Medicine.
