Art Club has month full of events

art clubStudents in Cowley College’s Art Club have been busy preparing for several events in the month of October, beginning with this Saturday’s Art in the Park held at Winfield’s Island Park.

Art Club students will have a booth at Art in the Park where they can show and sell their work. The event will begin at 10 a.m. and run until 5 p.m.

“This is a chance for the students to gain experience and participate with professional artists,” Cowley College art instructor Mike Fell said.

Fell will also have a booth at the event where he will demonstrate the Raku firing process.

“This will serve as a way for us to demonstrate a bit of what we do at the college,” Fell said.

Following Art in the Park, Art Club students will pack up their work and take it to Winfield’s Baden Square for a student art show, which will run Oct. 7-24.

The students will then take part in Wichita’s Final Friday gallery crawl on Friday, Oct. 25 at The Frame Guild, located at 506 East Douglas. Final Friday is an opportunity to view and purchase great art in Wichita.

“These events have helped the students learn how to prepare work for a show and has pushed them to up the quality of their work,” Fell said.

Along with these events, Art Club students have begun the process of making chili bowls in advance of the seventh annual Art Club Chili Bowl fundraiser, which will be held Dec. 3 in the Earle N. Wright Community Room.
