Members of Cowley College’s student organizations, along with more than 100 volunteers, packaged over 20,000 servings of food to distribute to area food banks and ministry meals Saturday at the college’s recreation building.

The volunteers began unloading supplies and equipment at 8 a.m. and started running supplies down the lines at 9:30 a.m. They had packaged over 20,000 servings by 11:30 a.m.

High school students from Wellington (home schooled), Arkansas City, Ark City Christian Academy, Winfield, and Central-Burden assisted with the event.

Students in Cowley College’s Academic Civic Engagement through Service (ACES) organization, Cowley Activity Awareness Team (CAAT) the Diverse Tiger Club and Phi Theta Kappa also helped make the event a success.

There were also community volunteers as well as individuals from the Early Birds Lions Club that helped package the food.

“This was one of the smoothest food packaging events we have ever run,” ACES sponsor James Fry said. “I would like to thank the volunteers. They bought in, worked hard, and did an excellent job.”
