Criminal Justice students obtain special training

Criminal Justice studentsMajors in the Cowley College Criminal Justice department took part in a rare opportunity earlier this month as they were given the opportunity to attend a two-day training course with dozens of area law enforcement, social service, and health care professionals. The training was conducted in Winfield and sponsored by a grant from the Legacy Foundation.

The classes were in-depth courses on sexual assault investigation. The first day was specifically geared towards the investigations of sexual assault on children. The second day centered on special investigative issues and techniques for sexual assault cases in general. The instructor of the course was SAC (Captain) Mike Prodan of the South Carolina Law Enforcement Division Behavioral Science Unit.

Among the topics students learned about were the typologies of sex offenders, using items on scene to determine what type of offender investigators may be dealing with, techniques for catching child molesters and many others.
