More than 1,500 school children attend "The Beeple"

BeepleArea school children filled the Robert Brown Theatre on Wednesday and Thursday as "The Beeple" was performed in front of more than 1,500 youngsters. The public was invited to an evening performance on Thursday night. Money raised from the performances will go towards helping fund the Act One Drama Club’s trip to New York.

The Beeple, an entertaining fantasy about honor among the bees, had children and adults entertained throughout the performances.

Theatre director Dejon Ewing enjoyed working with the Children’s theatre production.

“It was a joy from day one,” Ewing said.

Ewing can recall being bused to the high school to watch a theatre production while in elementary school.

“It literally changed my life and struck a chord that I will never forget,” Ewing said. “It thrills me to think of the number of kids that got to take part in this theatre experience. It was a pleasure to have the kids so involved.”

Area schools in attendance were: USD 470, ACCA, Sacred Heart, St. Mary’s in Ponca City, OK, First Lutheran in Ponca City, OK, Newkirk (OK), Dexter, Cedar Vale, and Central Burden.

Ewing lauded the work of the cast as well as set designer Stuart Parman.

“Stuart and the crew did a beautiful job with the set and built a full-fledged production,” Ewing said.
