Cowley to be first college in nation to offer controlled F.O.R.C.E. Class

F.O.R.C.E. ClassDuring the spring 2015 semester the criminal justice department will be rolling out the first of a line of skill builder courses with the addition of a new class called Controlled F.O.R.C.E.

The skill builder courses are college credit courses designed to help someone enhance skills necessary in the field of law enforcement. What is very exciting about the Controlled F.O.R.C.E. class is that Cowley College is the first college in the nation that the Controlled F.O.R.C.E organization has allowed to use its curriculum.

Controlled F.O.R.C.E is a specialized form of self-defense that has been taught to law enforcement and the military for decades. F.O.R.C.E.  is an acronym that stands for First Offensive Reaction in a Controlled Environment.

What sets Controlled F.O.R.C.E apart from other self-defense programs is that it was designed to decrease injuries both to an officer (user) and the suspect. Controlled F.O.R.C.E can only be taught by an instructor certified by the Controlled F.O.R.C.E. organization and will be instructed by Shawn Love of the Winfield Police Department.

Love is also the owner/operator of White Tiger Martial Arts LLC in Winfield and has been a Controlled F.O.R.C.E. instructor since 1997.

The course will be taught Tuesday evenings from 6-8 pm. Students that successfully complete the course will earn a Level One end user certification from Controlled F.O.R.C.E.
