Kandice WrightCapping a wild week of festivities, Cowley College sophomore Kandice Wright followed up being crowned Homecoming queen by being named the school’s March Student of the Month.

“It has been an incredible week,” Wright said. “It’s very flattering to be named Student of the Month; it makes me feel like I must be doing something right.”

Wright is the daughter of Tye and Anne Wright. She has a brother, Kye 16. Grandparents are Kaye Menhousen of Anthony, KS, and Larry and Dina Dinkle of Oakley, KS.

Prior to coming to Cowley she attended Douglass High School where she participated in volleyball, basketball, track, power lifting, and FCCLA. She also served as the vice president of SADD, vice president of the Student Body, and was a senior FCA officer.

At Cowley, the business major is a Student Ambassador, Tigerette, Student Senate vice president, Phi Theta Kappa vice president, and member of the concert choir, FCA and Chi Alpha youth groups. She was named the Student Ambassador of the Month in December 2014 and is a member of the President’s Honor Roll.

“I love being involved on campus,” Wright said. “It is a good way to give back and meet people.”

Away from Cowley she has helped with area food packaging events through her church, First Assembly of God in Arkansas City.

Kristi Shaw, Cowley College’s Director of Student Life, is among the many individuals that have been impressed by Wright’s involvement on campus.

“Kandice is influential to all types of students on campus and accepting of everyone she meets; she has a phenomenal work ethic,” Kristi Shaw, Director of Student Life said.

After graduating from Cowley Wright plans to continue her education at Fort Hays State University. She then hopes to work in the cosmetics field.

Wright said Cowley has helped her realize what she wants to do with her life and has helped her grow as a person.

“I love it here,” Wright said. “Cowley has helped me find out more of who I am and has made my confidence go up a lot. It has really been a great experience.”
