Kansas Deans and Directors of Continuing Education and Community Service meet at Cowley


deans and directorsProviding an opportunity to learn about programs and facilities at other institutions, Cowley College played host to the spring meeting of the Kansas Deans and Directors of Continuing Education and Community Service on March 5-6.

The group meets twice each year and rotates meeting locations to host campuses of community colleges and technical schools throughout the state. 

Thirty four participants from 15 institutions attended. A total of 11 community colleges, three technical schools and one state university were represented.

Julie Kratt and Brooke Istas had an opportunity to share the redesign of the English and Math courses at Cowley College.  While, Andy McFayden showcased the Marketing and Recruiting initiatives at Wichita Area Technical College.

Karla Wiscombe from the Kansas Board of Regents connected via the ITV system to share updates and answer questions from Topeka.

Much of the time was spent discussing higher-ed initiatives, policies, and practices that are relevant to the group through round-table discussions, break-out sessions and town hall discussion forums.

“It provides a tremendous opportunity to interact with colleagues and discuss how they handle similar issues at their institutions,” Cowley College director of academic enrichment Janice Stover said. “Everyone is friendly and willing to share best practices and new ideas. It’s a great group of people who are involved in many aspects of the operations of their institutions. I always walk away with new insight and ideas pertaining to my job responsibilities.”
