C.A.R.E. Conference to be held August 15

Created to provide professional development for area preschool and/or child care providers, the C.A.R.E. Conference will be held Saturday, August 15 inside the Brown Center at Cowley College’s main campus in Arkansas City.

This marks the second consecutive year the Child Care and Development Advisory Board has approved having Cowley College host the conference.

Each year these preschool and/or child care providers are required to complete a minimum number of hours to obtain or continue their license with the Kansas State Health Department.

This year’s event will feature four guest speakers, one of which is coming all the way from North Carolina with the support of a grant through the Cowley County K-State Extension office.

The event will begin with registration from 7:30-8 a.m. in the Brown Center Lobby. Lunch will be served in the Earle N. Wright Community Room from 12:15-1:15 p.m.

Cheryl Firsching, Director of Child Start of Wichita, and member of the Cowley College, Child Care and Development Advisory Board, will once again be on hand to help with the event, as will Cowley College Director of Education Julie Rhoads.

Dr. Carolyn Dunn, professor and head for the Department Youth, Family, and Community Sciences, NC State University, will serve as the keynote speaker.

Regina Miller, Director of the Princeton Children’s Center in Wichita, KS, will discuss active learning and parent engagement.
