Creative Claws conducts fundraiser

Wanting to bring Cowley College students and faculty together for a fun event, members of Cowley College’s Creative Claws organization held the Touch the Wall contest Wednesday behind the McAtee Dining Center.

Creative Claws co-presidents, Ian Brannan and Alecia Henson, organized the event as a way to raise funds for the organization.

“They felt it was important to Cowley that we emphasize Cowley spirit overall before we focus on our other events,” Creative Claws co-sponsor Marlys Cervantes said. “It was a tremendous idea on their part, and I’m thrilled to work with them this year.”

The cost to enter the contest was $2 for students and $1 for faculty and staff. Those not entering the contest were able to rent a water gun for a small donation and douse the contestants with water.

PrairieLand Partners, Daisy Mae’s Café, Sonic, McDonald’s, Wendy’s, Creative Claws, Willow Fashion, Just Jewelry, Cowley Bookstore, and Tiger Deli donated prizes for the event.

Creative Claws’ next meeting is on September 11 at 2:30 p.m. in the Brown Center Room 131. The group will conduct a film night that evening at 7 in the Earle N. Wright Community Room to show “Louder Than a Bomb”, which focuses on four Chicago student groups who compete in the world’s largest slam poetry competition.

“Creative Claws is off to a wonderful year,” Cervantes said. “We have a great group of students involved already.”
