HLC Strategy Team attends AQIP Strategy Forum

Cowley HLCSeveral Cowley College employees recently returned to Arkansas City with new ideas after attending the Academic Quality Improvement Program (AQIP) Strategy Forum Sept. 24-26 in St. Charles, IL.

The college’s Higher Learning Commission (HLC) Strategy Team members Adam Borth, Amy McWhirt, Josh Cobble, Kelly Johnson, Michelle Schoon, Slade Griffiths, and interim president Tony Crouch attended the forum. Frank Owens is also part of the team and assisted in the preparatory work, but was unable to attend the event.

“This is an amazing team of dedicated Cowley Tigers,” Crouch said. “The best part, they are only representative of the great folks we have.”

The strategy forum was intended as a kickoff to a new AQIP accreditation project and is generally to be attended every four years by higher education institutions. The process is designed to take the team through a series of exercises, one building upon the other, to lead to a final process or project charter.

"The forum was designed to help colleges focus on the Principles of High Performance Institutions in the areas of focus, involvement, leadership, learning, people, collaboration, agility, foresight, information, and integrity,” Natural Science Department Chair Michelle Schoon said.

Although the days were intense, the group took it upon themselves to go beyond the boundaries, working each night after the forum concluded until very late in the evening.

“The Cowley leadership team worked together well to develop the broad strategic plan for the institution,” vice president of academic affairs Slade Griffiths said. “We are pleased with the progress and look forward to working with all the faculty and staff to move to the next level of excellence at the college.”
