Programmable Logic Controllers class develops alarm system

Cowley College’s Programmable Logic Controllers class recently developed a security alarm system for PL Classthe classroom as part of its midterm project.

The program combined dedicated inputs and outputs to include light barriers, momentary switches, pneumatic valving, lights, and sirens with student developed programs that included timing and counting functions. Taking the project to a new level the class developed a new feature, a tennis ball cannon. This cannon added to the student interest both among those taking the PLC class and those visitors who entered the room to hear it go off.
