Winners of Graphic Design Contest Announced!

Logo Design WinnersMile Marker Review, Cowley College's own literary and art journal, recently announced the winners of a graphic design contest to select new logos for the club, Creative Claws, and the Creative Writing program.

Winners are Whitney McCully, of Newkirk, and Danielle Edwards, of Derby.

McCully is an AAS Graphic Design major who has been interning for Ark City Arts for the past semester. Her design was chosen as the new logo for the creative writing program at Cowley.

McCully and Edwards were each presented with certificates and gifts of appreciation by Marlys Cervantes, program director and club sponsor, and Lucia Morales, Creative Claws president.

"Mark Dykes, Cowley's graphic design instructor, has an excellent program and students. Dykes brings a true professionalism along with his creativity that truly benefits his students. It's not surprising we had a hard time making final decisions on the logo designs," Cervantes said.  "However, the designs by Whitney and Danielle were creative, clever and ones we feel can stand the test of time for us as a program."

Mile Marker Review will have additional contests this semester, in addition to accepting submissions of poetry, fiction, non-fiction, photography and art for its regular spring edition. More information about the online journal can be found at or by contacting Marlys Cervantes or Ryan Doom.

In addition, Creative Claws president, Lucia Morales, invites everyone to join her for the next Writers' Corner on Thursday, February 11th, at 7pm in the Band Room in Galle-Johnson, where Cowley writers will present original works.
