Final Writers’ Corner for the year

Creative WritingCowley College’s Creative Writing Program held its final Writers’ Corner of the academic year Thursday, with 16 writers presenting a variety of original works and celebrating numerous accomplishments of the students involved in the program. Eleven of the students will graduate this May.

Special guest for the evening was Dr. Arnett, vice president of academic affairs. Arnett’s humor and inspirational stories entertained the group prior to celebrating the graduates.

Arnett expressed his hope that they would “never neglect their talent.”

Marlys Cervantes, director of the Creative Writing program, introduced the last reading of each of the graduates, highlighting their time at Cowley. She told them to always remember the value of language and that “words matter.”

“Doc Arnett’s message is an extremely important one. Creative talent enriches lives and makes the world a better place,” Cervantes said. “Cowley students are rich with talent and passion for life. I am so proud of this group of young people.”

The public is invited to a student showcase, Life: Through Words and Lens, in the Earle N. Wright Community Room on Thursday, May 5, from 6:30-8 p.m. The showcase will feature creative writers and photographers from a variety of Cowley College classes.
