Original works presented at Writers’ Corner

Writers' CornerThe first Writers’ Corner of the year was a success with over 70 people in attendance Thursday in the Band Room on Cowley College’s main campus.

Twenty-one presenters showcased 40 original works. Special presenters were John Sefel, director of Theater, who presented one of his two plays set for their New York City debut in the next few days, and Gavin Brown, intramural coordinator, dorm manager and volunteer basketball assistant, who is a former Cowley student and writer.

Marlys Cervantes, Humanities Chair and director of the program, says, “Cowley students are some of the most creative young people I know. We had sadness, joy, heartache, and celebration on the stage last night.”

People are invited to the student showcase in the Earl N. Wright Community Room at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday, December 3, where student writers and photographers will present works from this semester.

“I’m always amazed at the courage of our young men and women as they share their talent and experiences,” Cervantes said. “We were all pleased with the turnout at the event last night, and I hope to see many from the community at the showcase in December.”
