Student works to be displayed during Life: Through Words and Lens event

Featuring up-cycled frames and an eclectic blend of images from weathered, old barns to holiday-themed decor and so much more, the Life: Through Words and Lens event will be held at 6:30 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 3 inside Cowley College’s Earle N. Wright Community Room.

Meg Smith, photography instructor, said this semester was about learning how to play with the camera, perfect settings and select scenes.

“We did various walk-abouts with a goal of capturing specific shots or creating images to match existing titles,” Smith said. “We wrapped up the semester working in the digital darkroom (Photoshop) and touched on branding and marketing for the show.”

Smith was excited to have three Cowley employees join the class this semester; Jim Ailey, Bob Moffatt and Lindsay Allen.

Along with the photographic works put together by students in Cowley College’s digital photography class, writing portfolios will also be on display.

Marlys Cervantes, co-sponsor of Creative Claws, said the portfolios were done by students in Cowley College’s creative writing, poetry writing and screen writing classes.

Members of the previous classes are once again providing the refreshments for the event.

“I cannot thank them enough for their generosity and dedication over the last few years,” Smith said.

The events is free and open to the public.
