Criminal justice students volunteer

Blue SantaDespite the stress of finals week and preparations for the semester break, Cowley College’s criminal justice students found time to team up with the Winfield Police Department for Operation Blue Santa which provides Christmas for families in need.

Criminal justice students donated their time and efforts to assist the police department with gathering donations, organizing the items to be delivered and wrapping the mounds of gifts that were purchased with generous community donations.

The criminal justice students raised over $300 to contribute to the program as well as numerous bags of toys. On Wednesday, December 16, students teamed with members of the Winfield Police Department and the police department’s citizen academy alumni organization to wrap gifts for the children benefitting from the program as well as pack boxes of necessities for the families themselves.

Through the combined efforts, this year’s Blue Santa program will provide Christmas for a record 48 children in the community. The deliveries will be made this week by Officers and Santa Clause himself in a special blue Santa outfit.
