Finalists for Cowley Homecoming royalty announced

 

Five women and five men have been chosen as finalists for Homecoming queen and king at Cowley College.


Crowning of this year’s queen and king will take place at halftime of the men’s basketball game vs. Barton County on Feb. 1. The men’s game begins at 7:30 p.m. The Homecoming Dance will follow at 9:30 p.m. in the Earle N. Wright Community Room.


This year’s Homecoming theme is “Tiger Nation-Cowley Around the World”.

 

Homecoming activities will run January 30 through February 1.


Queen finalists are, Peyton Adams, Abby Garcia, Carly Gum, Ashley Huslig, and Olivia Powell.


King finalists are, Harvey Baker Jr, Blake Graham, Connor Litton, Matheus Martins, and Brett Wright.

 

Queen bios:

 

Peyton Adams, daughter of Eric and Coni Adams, is a pre-nursing major. At Cowley, she is a member of the women’s tennis team, a student ambassador, a resident assistant in the dorms and past Queen Alalah candidate. After Cowley she plans to attend nursing school at either Kansas University or Pittsburg State University.


Abby Garcia, daughter of Martin and Suzy Garcia, is an elementary education major. At Cowley, she is vice president of leadership for Phi Theta Kappa, a Cowley Tutor, a past student of the month and former member of the Lady Tiger tennis team. After Cowley she plans to transfer to Emporia State University.


Carly Gum, daughter of Bob and Donna Gum, is a pre-nursing major. At Cowley, she is a student ambassador, resident assistant in the dorms and a member of the Lady Tiger softball team. After Cowley she plans to attend nursing school.


Ashley Huslig, daughter of Darren and Rene Huslig, is a pre-nursing major. At Cowley, she is president of Phi Theta Kappa, a Cowley Tutor, member of the women’s soccer team and a past Student of the Month, Ambassador of the Month, and ITA Scholar Athlete. After Cowley she plans to attend nursing school.


Olivia Powell, daughter of Terry and Natalie Powell, is an athletic training major. At Cowley, she is a student ambassador, Cowley Tutor, and All-American member of the Lady Tiger volleyball team. After Cowley she plans to finish her degree at a NCAA Division II while also continuing to play volleyball.

 

King bios:

 

Harvey Baker Jr, son of Jackie Folger, is an engineering major. At Cowley, he is president of the Academic Excellence Challenge team. After Cowley he plans to pursue a degree in petroleum engineering.

 

Blake Graham, son of Tony Graham and Brenda and Steve Walker, is a graphic design major. At Cowley, he is a Cowley Tutor, resident assistant in the dorms, and NJCAA All-Academic Team selection as a member of the Tiger tennis team. After Cowley he plans to pursue a degree in architecture.


Connor Litton, son of Ryan and Maureen Litton, is a sports management major. At Cowley, he is a member of the No. 5-ranked Tiger baseball team and was named an Honorable Mention All-Conference selection as a freshman. After Cowley he plans to continue his baseball career at East Carolina University.


Matheus Martins, son of Geovani and Sandra Martins, is a political science major. At Cowley, he is a resident assistant in the dorms and a member of the intramural champion basketball team. After Cowley he plans to transfer to a four-year school.


Brett Wright, son of Kevin and Krystal Wright, is a history education major. At Cowley, he is a member of the Tiger basketball team. After Cowley he plans to continue playing basketball and finish his degree at a four-year school.
