200 middle school students visit Cowley College campus


200 middle school students visit Cowley College campusA total of 200 eighth grade students from Arkansas City Middle School had an opportunity to participate in sessions put on by Cowley College’s Welding, Cosmetology, Criminal Justice, Impact, Upward Bound, Allied Health and Math Departments during the school’s Eighth Grade Day held Wednesday, March 29 on the main campus in Arkansas City.

Jeff Shaw, eighth grade science instructor, said the students raved about their visit to Cowley. Leslie Patterson, eighth grade counselor, stated "it is so good to get these kids on a college campus and show them it is not just a building."

Jessi Howerton, eighth grade math instructor, said the students had a great time and enjoyed the hands on experience.
The students were welcomed by admissions representative Brandi Gibbs-Herman, executive director of enrollment management Kristi Shaw and Cowley College president Dr. Dennis C. Rittle.

Student ambassador Gunner Johnson also entertained the students by performing a juggling and Rubik’s Cube act.
