Cowley College conducts Town Hall meetings in Wellington

Cowley College conducts Town Hall meetings in WellingtonThe Sumner County Economic Development Commission hosted Cowley College for a pair of Sumner County Town Hall meetings on Monday, August 1. The meetings were held at the Wellington High School Auditorium.

Stacy Davis, Executive Director of Sumner County Economic Development, and Annarose White, Wellington Area Chamber of Commerce Director, welcomed Cowley College president Dr. Dennis C. Rittle, who provided a presentation in the morning and evening meetings and responded to questions regarding Cowley College’s plan for a campus in Sumner County. The development of a campus would require the adoption of a special project proposal which would provide local funding from Sumner County in the form of a sales tax to support this initiative.

Dr. Rittle spoke of the benefits to advancing service in Sumner County and shared results of the recent survey conducted to inform the College’s plan for a campus in Sumner County. The respondents of the survey consisted of 700 plus area high school students and 131 local professionals.

The feedback from those in attendance at both Town Hall meetings was overwhelmingly in favor of Cowley College adding a campus in Sumner County through the adoption of a sales tax in Sumner County. Sumner County voters will have the opportunity to support this special project when they vote during the upcoming November elections.
