Phi Theta Kappa Chapter, Alpha Gamma Upsilon, attends Leadership Conference

Phi Theta Kappa leadership conferenceSeven members of the Ark City Phi Theta Kappa (PTK) Chapter, Alpha Gamma Upsilon, attended a Leadership Conference at Fort Hays State University on September 23 and 24.

The keynote presenter was Rachael Wagner a professional etiquette coach who provided the attendees with information on business dining, business dress, proper digital media use in the work environment, and techniques for proper business introductions.

Students also attended a variety of breakout sessions designed to familiarize them with the Phi Theta Kappa organization and the benefits of membership; breakout session topics included the history of PTK, 5-star chapter development planning, fundraising, membership recruitment, competitive edge, scholarship writing, and the regional Honors in Action topic concerning the rising cost of tuition.

The Cowley students were able to make contact with the regional officers in hopes of collaborating with them on their honors in action topic since Cowley students are studying the similar topic of free college tuition. The region hosted a Penny War as a regional service project and raised $320 for the Mulvane flood victims.

Proceeds will be donated to one of the flood relief organizations that is working with families in ongoing recovery efforts. Cowley students were joined by other members from several different chapters across Kansas and Nebraska.
