Cowley College serves as premier sponsor of Wheat Festival


Cowley College serves as premier sponsor of Wheat FestivalIn advance of the groundbreaking ceremonies for the Sumner Campus, Cowley College served as the premier sponsor of the 117th annual Kansas Wheat Festival held July 12-16 in Wellington, KS.

Along with the financial support the sponsorship provided to the festival, Abby Hollins, Cowley College’s director of marketing, and Kristi Shaw, executive director of enrollment management, organized a fleet of Cowley College vehicles to participate in the Kansas Wheat Festival parade on Friday night.

Along with the College vehicles, a group of 30 administrators, faculty, staff and family members walked in the parade.

Cowley College president Dr. Dennis C. Rittle, and his family, participated in the parade on Friday evening prior to taking part in the VFW Breakfast on Saturday morning and festival activities.

College representatives also attended the invitation only art exhibit, while Jan Grace, Sumner Campus Operations Officer, and Tina Grillot, Associate Vice President of Business and Industry, attended the Picnic in the Park where they spoke about the Sumner Campus groundbreaking ceremony and Career and Technical Education programs.

Cowley College at Kansas Wheat FestivalGrace said it was important for Cowley College to be visible to the Wellington community.

“Cowley College continues to provide support to Sumner County, having a presence enhances the strength of the support,” Grace said.
The groundbreaking ceremony for the Sumner Campus will take place at 1 p.m. October 11 in Wellington, KS. The location of the future campus is east of Walmart along Highway 160.

The Technical Center is expected to open in the fall of 2018 followed by the opening of the Short General Education Center in the fall of 2019.
