Whitcomb named September Student of the Month

Kelsie Whitcomb named September Student of the MonthServing as a leader on campus, Cowley College sophomore Kelsie Whitcomb was recently named the September Student of the Month.

Whitcomb is the daughter of Chris Whitcomb and Debbie Hamm. She has a sister Elizabeth Jacobs 25, and a brother Jeremie Whitcomb 17.

She graduated from Campus High School in 2016. At Campus she was involved in band, choir, and was an AVID tutor.

After looking at several colleges, Whitcomb decided going to a two-year school would be the best way to start her college career.

“I had heard good things about Cowley and it was not too far from home,” Whitcomb said. “The faculty and staff are really helpful here.”

At Cowley she is the president of the Math & Science Club, vice president of Phi Theta Kappa, vice president of the Game Club, vice president of the Art Club, and is involved in the Media Club, while also serving as a Cowley Tutor.

Along with her campus involvement she has maintained a 4.0 grade point average and is a member of the President’s Honor Roll.

PTK co-sponsor Deborah Layton is one of the many instructors that have enjoyed getting to work with Whitcomb.

“Kelsie has a positive attitude which allows her to get along with students and faculty alike; she puts her talents to use by taking on numerous leadership roles,” Layton said.

Away from Cowley, Whitcomb enjoys playing guitar and piano in her free time.

After Cowley she plans to transfer to a four-year school to earn a degree in math education, with the hope of becoming a high school math teacher.

“I love helping people and being a tutor,” Whitcomb said. “That moment they understand what I am teaching them makes me feel really good.”
