Cowley Music Department to conduct fall concert on October 10


The Cowley College Music Department will hold its first concert for the 2017-18 season on Tuesday, October 10 at 7:30 p.m. in the Robert Brown Theater. The Concert Choir, CC Singers, Concert Band, and Jazz Band will all perform on the program.

The Cowley College Bands will begin with a fun romp through jazz standards and the movies. With the Jazz Band playing tunes like Tuxedo Junction, When I Fall In Love, and Rock Around the Clock coupled with the Concert Band performing Selections from Marry Poppins, Captain America March, and the mysterious Witching Hour, there is sure to be something that everyone will enjoy.

The Concert Choir will present an arrangement of the Star-Spangled Banner by Tim Sharp, executive director of the American Choral Directors association; “Carpenters of God,” an original text and choral setting by Vijay Singh, professor of music at Central Washington University; a setting of Set Me as a Seal by Rene Clausen, professor of music at Concordia College in Moorhead, MN; and a setting of a portion of Walt Whitman’s poem “A Song of Joys” titled “A Jubilant Song” by Kansas native composer John Leavitt. 

The CC Singers will perform an arrangement of “When I Fall in Love” by Kirby Shaw, and an arrangement of the Beatles’ hit “In My Life” by Steve Zegree.

There is no cost to attend the concert.
