Visual and Performing Arts Department entertains with fall concert singersReturning to the stage for its first concert of the 2017-18 season, the Cowley College Singers, Concert Choir, Jazz Band, and Concert Band impressed the audience with a wide range of music Tuesday in the Robert Brown Theatre.

The Concert Choir presented an arrangement of the Star-Spangled Banner by Tim Sharp, executive director of the American Choral Directors association; “Carpenters of God,” an original text and choral setting by Vijay Singh, professor of music at Central Washington University; a setting of Set Me as a Seal by Rene Clausen, professor of music at Concordia College in Moorhead, MN; and a setting of a portion of Walt Whitman’s poem “A Song of Joys” titled “A Jubilant Song” by Kansas native composer John Leavitt.

The CC Singers performed an arrangement of “When I Fall in Love” by Kirby Shaw, and an arrangement of the Beatles’ hit “In My Life” by Steve Zegree.

“I thought both of our groups (Concert Choir and CC Singers) did very well last night,” director of vocal music David Smith said. “Starting our concert with the National Anthem was so much more successful than I anticipated, considering the recent controversies surrounding it. I was proud of all of them and their presentation.”
