Cowley College Visual and Performing Arts Department to perform Mary Poppins

Mary Poppins actorsWhile at Disneyworld with Cowley College theatre students for acting and technical workshops, John Rohr, Cowley’s technical director of theatre, had a spark of inspiration on what to perform for Cowley’s fall musical. Theatre director Cara Kem fought the idea at first since they had already decided to go another route, but after hearing Rohr’s ideas, she could not deny that Mary Poppins was their show.

To see the incredible ideas that inspired the entire show, make plans to see Mary Poppins November 9-11 in the Robert Brown Theatre. Shows each night are at 7:30 p.m. with a 2 p.m. matinee on Saturday.

Tickets can be purchased online at www.cowley.edu/boxoffice or by calling 620-441-5570. If online tickets are sold out individuals can call the box office to see if there might still be seats available.

The cost for tickets is $10 for adults and $8 for students and Blue Star Families.

Cowley is also hosting a free Kids Day event on Saturday, November 11, Sponsored by Cowley's Childcare and Development program and the Optimist Club, where children can enjoy hot dogs, bouncy houses, games, and more from 12-2 p.m. Come early and you can meet Mary and Bert from 12-1 p.m. There will also be a limited number of tickets available for only $5 (cash only) that can be purchased outside.

Based on the classic 1964 Disney film, Mary Poppins is an ageless story of redemption and love.

When Jane and Michael, the children of the wealthy and uptight Banks family, are faced with the prospect of a new nanny, they are pleasantly surprised by the arrival of the magical Mary Poppins, while their parents—and in particular Mr. Banks—are insistent on someone strict for the job. Embarking on a series of fantastical and memorable adventures with Mary, Jane and Michael aren’t the only ones she has a profound effect upon. Even grown-ups can learn a lesson or two from the nanny who advises that “anything can happen if you let it.”

Mary Poppins is presented through special arrangement with Music Theatre International (MTI).  All authorized performance materials are also supplied by MTI.  www.MTIShows.com
