Ark City Early Bird Lions Club establishes scholarship at Cowley CollegeWanting to help potential college students in need of financial assistance, the Ark City Early Bird Lions Club recently established a scholarship at Cowley College.

The scholarship will be for $1,000 per year ($500 per semester). To be eligible for the scholarship individuals must be a full-time college student and have a 2.5 grade point average. They must also take part in at least one community service project each semester.

Sue Lancaster, president of the Ark City Early Bird Lions Club, said the Club inherited a 1927 Model A in which they sold tickets at $20 apiece to give individuals an opportunity to win the car. Portions of the money raised were used to establish the scholarship.

Lancaster, who is involved in Cowley College’s Foster Parent program, said the Lions Club have been looking for ways to help students in need.
“We think it is imperative to give back to the students all we can,” Lancaster said.

The Ark City Early Bird Lions Club works to empower volunteers to serve their communities, meet humanitarian needs, encourage peace and promote international understanding through Lions clubs.
