Chad Speer Memorial Automotive Scholarship created at Cowley College

April 12, 2019

An expendable scholarship was recently created by friends and family of Chad Speer, who tragically passed away in February at the age of 47. The Chad Speer Memorial Automotive Scholarship at Cowley College will be used for full-time students seeking a degree in the Automotive Tech Program.

Speer graduated from Arkansas City High School in 1989 and shortly thereafter started a life-time career in auto repair. He began work at Musson Auto Parts before starting a 20-year career at Reedy Ford in Arkansas City. He started as Parts Manager with Reedy Ford before advancing to Service Manager at the time of his death.

He was awarded the Ford Motor Company’s Master Certified Employee of Excellence Award and is remembered for his kindness, humor, generosity, and loyalty.

“This scholarship is a way to honor Chad while assisting kids that need help going to school,” Dick Reedy, Dealer Principal at Reedy Ford said.

To be considered for the Chad Speer Memorial Automotive Scholarship a student must have a 3.0 grade point average. So far $1,025 has been raised to kick start the scholarship which will be awarded beginning in Fall 2019.

“We are in dire need of people with technical, hands-on training,” Reedy said. “We just don’t have enough of those people.”

To donate to the scholarship go to or send donations to the Cowley College Foundation, located at 125 South Second Street, Arkansas City, KS, 67005.
