Candlelight Vespers concert to be held December 8

December 2, 2019

Christmas Vespers concert posterCelebrate the holiday season with music by attending the annual Christmas Vespers concert on Sunday, Dec. 8. The concert will feature traditional and original Christmas music by the Cowley College Concert Choir, the CC Singers, and Cowley Concert Band. There is no cost to attend the event which will be held at 2:30 p.m. in the Robert Brown Theatre.

The Concert Choir and CC Singers will take the stage under the direction of Stephen Butler to perform songs people treasure this time of year, while the Concert Band will be led by Dr. Michael Christensen.

Butler said Vespers is a sacred service of worship that calls our attention to the real reason for the Christmas season.

“This concert kicks off the season, and I think it helps to get our focus off of materialism and on to being appreciative for God's many gifts, and it strengthens our minds to be giving back to our fellow man,” Butler said.

A reception, sponsored by the Cowley College Foundation, will follow the concert in the Earle N. Wright Community Room. The Cowley Jazz Band will perform music at the reception.

The CC Singers will perform The Christmas Song (with the Concert Band), Deck the Halls, and A Charlie Brown Christmas.

The Concert Choir will perform the following all original arrangements by Stephen Butler:

Hark! The Herald Angels Sing, Angels we have heard on High, Holy Night, The First Noel, Christmas Carols (with the audience), and Peace, Peace.

The Concert Band will perform Christmas Festival, Chestnuts Roasting on an Open Fire (with the CC Singers), and a Home Alone 2 Medley.
