Writing Center provides tips to high school students On February 6, 2021, the Writing Center held an application essays workshop with the high school students in the Upward Bound program. Cowley College's English instructor and Writing Center Coordinator, Jennifer Rupp, led 18 Upward Bound students through tips on writing personal statements for scholarship and college applications.

The students received a list of scholarships available and drafted statements they could use for a future application. Rupp said, “It was fun to work with this group of high school students as they start to think about their futures and the skills needed to get them where they want to go.”

The Writing Center also offers this application essays workshop to Cowley College students each semester as they prepare to transfer colleges or apply for new scholarships. Any Cowley College student is also welcome to bring an application essay to the Writing Center for individual tutoring at any time. They currently offer tutoring in-person and virtually through Zoom and email. The Writing Center's goal is not just to help with course assignments but to prepare students for their futures.
