Queen Alalah LXXXV

Respected student-athlete a finalist for Queen Alalah LXXXV

Stephanie Cabrera

Stephanie CabreraLooked upon as a leader on the Cowley College women’s soccer team, Stephanie Cabrera is always there for her teammates. She displays the same ethics in the classroom and was recently named one of five finalists for Queen Alalah LXXXV. Coronation is set for 7:30 p.m. Friday, Oct. 28 in the Robert Brown Theatre.

Cabrera is the daughter of Juanisela and Gregorio Cabrera. She is the granddaughter of Amalia and Alejandro Cabrera of El Salvador, and Antonio Rico and the late Juana Rico of Mexico. She has two brothers, Eric 16, and Christian 9. She also has a sister, Anamaryel 7.

She attended Arkansas City High School where she was involved in numerous activities including soccer, tennis, band, color guard, SADD, KAYS, National Honor Society, and was a Soroptimist Girl her senior year.

At Cowley, Cabrera is a co-captain of the women’s soccer team, a Student Senate representative for Phi Theta Kappa, a Student Ambassador, and is involved in the IMPACT program.

“I learn better in a smaller setting and being able to play soccer close to home was also beneficial in me choosing to come to Cowley,” Cabrera said. “Cowley is like one big, happy family. Everyone is always willing to help.”

Cabrera is majoring in pre-pharmacy with the hopes of being accepted into the University of Kansas Pharmacy School.

“Ever since I was little I wanted to do something with medicine,” Cabrera said.

Away from Cowley, Cabrera has been employed at Walgreens in Arkansas City for the past two years.
Being born and raised in Arkansas City, Cabrera looks forward to the annual Arkalalah parade and that delicious Arkalalah food.

“I enjoy all the activities and how the community comes together for the event,” Cabrera said. “I am honored to be considered to represent the city as Queen Alalah.”

Cabrera knows the other four Queen finalists and is looking forward to taking part in coronation.

“This is something I will always remember,” Cabrera said. “It will be fun to share this experience together.”
