Breanna Zapata, a former Miss Parkerfield, will be one of five candidates for Queen Alalah LXXXIX. The coronation will take place at 7:30 p.m. Friday, October 29 in the Robert Brown Theatre.
The pre-nursing major graduated from Arkansas City High School in 2020. At ACHS, she participated in soccer and track. She is the daughter of Everardo Zapata and Martha Lopez. She has three siblings, Rodolfo 17, Crystal 13, and Abby 11.
She chose to attend Cowley because it is close to home and she could get her general education classes out of the way.
“I also didn’t want to leave my sisters,” Zapata said. “I used to go to Cowley volleyball games all the time and everything at Cowley is really good.”
At Cowley she participated as a member of the nationally ranked Lady Tiger track and field team as a freshman.
As far as Arkalalah, Zapata loves the food and has enjoyed participating in the street games.
“Since serving as Miss Parkerfield I have had the goal of being Queen Alalah,” Zapata said. “I am very happy to be nominated.”
Away from Cowley, Zapata enjoys playing soccer, working out, and shopping.
After Cowley, she plans to attend either the University of Kansas or possibly a college in Texas with the hopes to one day become an anesthesiologist.
“I have several family members that are involved in the medical field and thought it would be an awesome thing to do,” Zapata said.
The chance to be crowned Queen Alalah and go through this entire process excites Zapata.
“It will be cool to experience Arkalalah from a different point of view,” Zapata said.
