Mulvane Math & Science Club hosts Hawaiian Luau
April 25, 2013

Math and Science ClubNot even the unseasonably cold weather could stop the Mulvane Math & Science Club from hosting their annual Hawaiian Luau on Tuesday.

Club sponsor and Master Chef, Uwe Conrad, prepared the meat choices of smoked pulled pork and barbeque ribs. Math and science club members provided side dishes of Hawaiian rice, pineapple cheese ball, fresh fruit, chips and pineapple upside down cake. Fruit punch drink was served in a color-changing Cowley cup that was included with each meal.

As usual, the cost was minimal at $3.00 for all you could eat. Club members dressed the part in grass skirts, leis and coconut bras. Hawaiian music filled the hallway, including live ukulele music provided by Conrad.

Other festivities included hula dancing and hula hoop demonstrations by club members. Another highlight of the event was Pete, the mechanical talking parrot, who surprised students with his impromptu outbursts.

With the semester winding down, the Mulvane Math & Science club will make a final field trip to the Sedgwick County Zoo this Saturday. The club's last meeting will be held Wednesday, May 1 at 11 a.m. Home-made, wind-powered vehicles, created and built by two club teams, will compete for bragging rights of best design and speed.
