Mulvane Math & Science Club Activities

Math & Science Club

The Mulvane Math & Science Club has been very busy this semester. Meeting twice a month, one meeting is for business and projects and the other is usually an activity or fundraiser. Some sort of food is always provided, usually prepared by Chef Conrad, with members contributing as well.

  • For a group project this semester, the members decided to build rubber band airplanes. Specifications were agreed upon and the construction has begun. The “fly-off” will take place in April with a winner in each of two categories: Longest distance flown and longest time in the air.
  • The annual West Point Bridge Design Contest is underway. The contest is open to all Cowley students. Interested student should Google “West Point Bridge Design Contest” and download the software. Cowley’s code is CCMS. Students then upload their most cost-effective design and see how it compares to others. Conrad always provides fabulous prizes for the top finishers at Cowley.
  • On February 20th, the club held it’s annual chili cook-off. The $1.50 bottomless-bowl price is hard to beat. In addition to 5 different chilis to choose from, students and faculty also enjoyed hot dogs, cornbread and desserts. The event raised $105 that will be used to pay for future field trips.
  • Speaking of field trips, the group ventured to Hutchinson on Saturday, March 1, intending to spend the morning at the salt mines, have lunch and then head to the Cosmosphere in the afternoon. The group came out of the salt mines to find the weather had taken a turn for the worse, and the remainder of the trip had to be cancelled. Getting home safely became the top priority. A return trip to Hutchinson to visit the Cosmosphere has been scheduled for April.
  • All students are welcome to join the Mulvane Math and Science Club. The club meets the first and third Wednesday of every month from 3-4 p.m. in Room 127 in the Bloomenshine building. Membership is $20, which includes a t-shirt and field trip fees. For questions, contact club president Elliot McNelly at .
