Student of the Month

April 2002 Student of the MonthHeather Benoit Moll

April 2002

By all accounts, Heather Benoit Moll should have become just another statistic. Just another unemployed, unwed mother living off the federal government, running away from her problems. Knowing her past, it’s incredible she didn’t end up that way. The sophomore persevered, and to cap off her two years, she was named April Student of the Month. Surviving two years of college has been a feat in itself. “Education was never stressed in my family,” said Benoit, the mother of a 2-year-old daughter, Olivia, and who married Joe Moll April 27. “I want to be an example for my brother and sister, who are 13 and 15 years old.” Moll was editor of the student newspaper, The Cowley Press, was a Student Ambassador, was listed in Who’s Who Among Students at American Junior Colleges, and was a member of Phi Theta Kappa. She also was nominated to receive a state newspaper award.
