Dr. Scott Layton

Interim Vice President of Academic Affairs

Dr. Scott Layton is the Interim Vice President of Academic Affairs and has worked for Cowley College since 2002. He holds a Bachelor of Science in Education, a Master of Curriculum and Instruction, and a Doctorate of Environmental Science from Oklahoma State University.

Scott is a dedicated administrator and teacher with over 23 years of experience as an instructor of biology and microbiology at Cowley and 9 years of prior experience in education. His accomplishments include the Bill & Judy Docking Faculty Achievement Award (2020-2022), being selected as a Watkins Fellow (2020), the Endowed Chair for Teaching and Learning Excellence (2008-2010), and the Stirnamin Award for Teaching and Learning Excellence (2008). His work, "Engaging Undergraduates in the Scientific Process: Exploring Invertebrate Endocrine Disruption," was also published in the American Biology Teacher in 2016.

At Cowley, Scott previously served as Chair of the Natural Science and Mathematics Department, the President of the Cowley Education Association and helped establish the Undergraduate Research Program in which he advised the completion of over 10 semester-long undergraduate research projects. Scott also acts as Chair of the Institutional Review Board.
