Well-liked by students and faculty on Cowley College’s main campus in Arkansas City, sophomore Emma Badley was recently named the school’s December Student of the Month.

Her parents are Jeremy and Debbie Badley of Arkansas City. Grandparents are Mike and Cheryl Townsley, Steve and Phyllis McCorgary, and Jan and Marcia Badley, all of Arkansas City. She has a brother, Joshua, 22, and a sister, Ella, 17.

Badley graduated from Arkansas City High School in 2022. She participated in choir, basketball, softball, the National Honor Society, and the Kay Club at ACHS.

While at Cowley, she has been a part of the President's Honor Roll with a 4.0 GPA, is currently serving as a student ambassador, is a member of Phi Theta Kappa, and was the first runner-up for Queen Alalah XCI.

Away from Cowley, she is a part-time para at IXL Elementary and enjoys watching her sisters' extracurricular activities.

She is majoring in elementary education and wants to teach first grade after college.

“My experience at Cowley has been great,” Badley said. “Being a student ambassador and a finalist for Queen Alalah helped me break out of my shell.”

According to Suvanah Perdue, registrar's office secretary, Badley is always helpful and smiling.

“Emma is an all-around student who is nice and caring to everyone around her,” Perdue said. “She is always reliable.”

Looking back on her decision to come to Cowley, Badley never dreamed of being named Student of the Month at the school.

“It is such an honor to know that people see me as more than just another kid on campus; they see something in me,” Badley said.

She plans to attend Emporia State University after Cowley.

“When May rolls around, it will be hard to leave, but I will be ready for the next chapter in my life,” Badley said.
